4 ingredients (6 if you count the cheese and buns) + 1 slow cooker = 1 splendiferous dinner.  And, in case you wondered, splendiferous is in the online thesaurus.  It’s a more funtastic word than “good”, don’t you think?

I used cube steaks to make these sandwiches, but you can use round steak or another cut if you like.  Here’s what you’ll need:

French Dip Sandwiches in the Slow Cooker

Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. cube steak
  • 1 green pepper sliced
  • 1 large or 2 small onions sliced
  • 1 Tbs. worcestershire sauce
  • provolone cheese slices
  • sub buns

Instructions

  • Place the steak, peppers and onions in the slow cooker.
  • Cook 5-6 hours on high or 7-8 on low.
  • Slice the steak into strips.
  • Place on buns and top with cheese.
  • Broil in the oven until cheese is melted.
  • Serve the the broth from the slow cooker.

  • Making these tonight!!!…Can’t wait… I have a big crock pot so hoping that they will still turn out.. will cook on warm…

  • Are you putting the meat in frozen or thawed? I can’t imagine 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce is enough to cook a 2 lb cube steak. But I don’t use my crockpot very often so please explain! 🙂

    • Liz, I sometimes do the meat frozen or partially frozen. Because the onions and beef create liquid as they cook, you really only will need 1 Tbs. worcestershire sauce. There will be plenty of liquid.

  • I assume the worcestershire goes in with the steak, onions and peppers? Can’t believe there’s no other liquids in the recipe!! What size slow cooker?

  • I tried this recipe as written and ended up with hockey pucks in the bottom of my crockpot.
There must be some step missing that adds moisture to the process.
