Slow Cooker Cranberry Orange Oatmeal

Slow Cooker Cranberry Orange Oatmeal

We’ve been really enjoying waking up to warm oatmeal lately. I’ve been experimenting with all kinds of flavors. Some have been blog-worthy and some not.

This Slow Cooker Cranberry Orange Oatmeal though is one that’s definitely worth sharing. The citrus flavor with the sweet-tart cranberry taste is a great way to start the day.

Number of Servings:

I’ve gotten several questions about the number of servings for these slow cooker oatmeal recipes.  My recipes use 1 cup of steel cut oats and I get around 6 servings from it.  Sometimes, it’s more than 6 servings.

That does seem like a lot from just 1 cup of oats, but it’s what we’ve found from making them many times.  The oatmeal box lists 1 cup of oats as making 4 servings.  We eat fairly large bowls of oatmeal, but maybe others eat even more?  I’m not sure.

Your experience may vary, but my family gets about 6 servings from these recipes.  I’d love to know how many servings you’re getting.

Slow Cooker Gingerbread Oatmeal

Gingerbread Slow Cooker Oatmeal - best oatmeal ever!

I’ve made this Gingerbread Oatmeal twice.  Both times, Jim has texted me later in the morning to say it was an awesome breakfast.  These really are fantastic.

In addition to the common cinnamon and brown sugar, they also have ginger, a bit of cloves and vanilla.  The combination is full of fall flavor.

Even my daughter, who has never eaten (or been willing to try) oatmeal, liked these.

And they’re really easy to make too.  Set them up at night before going to bed and they’ll be ready to eat in the morning.  I do use a timer for my small crockpot so they don’t have to cook all night.  You can read more about making your own programmable crockpot here.

Slow Cooked Peaches and Cream Oatmeal

Waking up to hot oatmeal is a joy.  And this Peaches and Cream Oatmeal is absolutely scrumptious!  It only takes a few minutes to prep in the evening.  I use my small slow cooker with a cheapo hack to make it programmable.

This recipe makes 4-6 servings.  The leftovers heat up well in the microwave.  It’s thick after being refrigerated, but just add a little milk to thin them down.

Smoked Sausage, Cabbage and Oat Soup

A while back I shared how excited I was to find Quaker Steel Cut Oats at the grocery store.  They are significantly less expensive than the other brand I’ve seen and I like to use them for oatmeal in the slow cooker.

I never imagined I would use them in soup.

But then The Sweets Life linked up a recipe for Scotch Oatmeal Soup for Ingredient Spotlight: Cabbage.  I knew I had to try it.  The oats are kind of like barley.  They add heartiness to the soup.

I modified The Sweets Life recipe a little bit.  Hers doesn’t have any meat in it and I knew I’d get much further serving a soup full of cabbage to my family if I included some meat.  I was right.  They all ate the soup and liked it.
