We’ve been really enjoying waking up to warm oatmeal lately. I’ve been experimenting with all kinds of flavors. Some have been blog-worthy and some not.
This Slow Cooker Cranberry Orange Oatmeal though is one that’s definitely worth sharing. The citrus flavor with the sweet-tart cranberry taste is a great way to start the day.
Number of Servings:
I’ve gotten several questions about the number of servings for these slow cooker oatmeal recipes. My recipes use 1 cup of steel cut oats and I get around 6 servings from it. Sometimes, it’s more than 6 servings.
That does seem like a lot from just 1 cup of oats, but it’s what we’ve found from making them many times. The oatmeal box lists 1 cup of oats as making 4 servings. We eat fairly large bowls of oatmeal, but maybe others eat even more? I’m not sure.
Your experience may vary, but my family gets about 6 servings from these recipes. I’d love to know how many servings you’re getting.

Most of the new slow cookers are the bigger oval ones, right? How can I make this in one of those? Thanks.

Jennie, if your slow cooker is large try using a smaller casserole dish that will fit inside the crock of the slow cooker. Then pour several cups of water around the outside of the casserole dish. This will keep the oats from scorching or cooking too fast.

Could I use old fashioned oats for this recipe? What is the benefit of steel cut / drawback of rolled? Thanks!
Tiffany says
Paige, you can use old fashioned. They hold up pretty well in the slow cooker, but you may want to cut back on the cooking time if you can. I use a Christmas tree timer on my crockpot so they only cook a few hours over night.
