This dinner was waiting for us when we came in from a marathon dentist appointment today. It was so nice to throw some rice on to cook, steam some broccoli and sit down to dinner. We ate every bite of it too.
The prep is simple, with just a few ingredients. In case you’re wondering what the dixie cup in the picture holds, it’s white wine. I froze wine in dixie cups instead of using ziplock bags this time. It works great.

Love chicken especially asian inspired. I am going to be making this. Thank you Tiffany.

That looks so yummy!!! This is definitely going on the menu for next week. I just found your blog and I’m looking forward to trying many of your recipes 🙂 Thanks!!!
Beverly says
I’ve never used hoisin sauce, but Mark loves anything with ginger. I think we need to try this. Going to add it to next week’s menu right now. Thanks Tiffany!
Ginger says
Looks awesome. Just one question, your recipe says boneless chicken, picture is bone in. Does the cooking time change depending on which you use? I have bone in to use. Thanks so much.
Tiffany says
Ginger, it is boneless chicken in the photo, but I can see why you’d think it had bones. You can use bone-in chicken for this recipe though. Just give it a long enough cooking time.
Ginger says
Wow! I turned my head sideways and can see it now! :o) Thanks so much for your answer and all your hard work.

Had this for dinner tonight. So yummy. I served it over quinoa, with green beans and salad on the side. (I know I bought broccoli to go with this meal, but I couldn’t find it. I can see cookies disappearing, but broccoli???) I also opened a can of pineapple slices to go with it. I just thought the flavors would blend well. They did.
The children really liked this, even those who don’t love meat. We will have it again. Thanks so much!
Lisa says
Is your chicken frozen before it goes into the slow cooker?
Tiffany says
Lisa, you can start with frozen boneless chicken. I do it that way sometimes. Just be sure to give it more time to cook.

Tiffany, I love your blog! (Found you from Org. Junkie). I am curious about freezing wine in paper cups?!? Do you cover the cups somehow?!
Thank you!
🙂
Ellen
Tiffany says
Ellen, I didn’t cover them. I should have used some foil or something to cover them up. I didn’t end up having them for long, because the shelf they were on fell off the freezer door and some glass broke. I was afraid glass had gotten into the wine cups, because they fell too. Next time I’ll cover them with foil.
Ellen says
Good idea, Tiffany! Thank you for your quick response!

Where do you find Hoisen sauce at the store? I’m sure it depends on the store, but what is the general area? Thanks!
Tiffany says
Carrie, you can find it in the aisle with Asian foods. Near soy sauce, water chestnuts etc.

Tried the chicken it’s pretty good thanks for the recipe.

Thanks for letting us know where to find the hoisin sauce! I found it in the store yesterday, tucked way back near the soy sauce. I never would have found it without having a good idea of where to look! Making this for dinner on Sunday!

I made this for dinner last night. I didn’t get it in the slow cooker so I put it in the oven. I think the color was better. My husband said it was a keeper. I had never used hoisen sauce before, but I will be from now on. I liked the flavor. I think this recipe would also be good on ribs or pork tenderloin.
Melissa says
Hi Sandy, how long did you keep it in the oven for?
Flower says
I was wondering if this would freeze well?
There’s only me and I have a 3qt crock pot. I don’t think I’d finish it all (then again if it’s as yummy as it sounds I just might) so I thought I’d ask if it would freeze well.
I can’t wait to try this!
Thanks!
Tiffany says
Flower, I think it would freeze well. You would just need to thaw and then you could microwave it to warm it up.
Nina T. says
Perfect timing! I have a jar of hoisin sauce in my pantry! Thanks!!!!

Is there a substitute for the wine? Vinegar maybe???? Can’t wait to try this out! I love crockpot recipes!

Oh wow!!! Looks delicious! I am doing a few weeks of your “fill the freezer” menus right now, in preparation for a baby coming in about 2 wks and I just found this recipe. I made the virus killing soup and went to Dollar General and bought some really cheap white wine to go in it….bc we don’t drink, I used the 1/2c. in the recipe and poured out the rest!! I never even thought to freeze it! What a great idea that I will certainly do next time. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us!

always wine you would drink for a better flavor. And WIne will keep after opening for quie some time. We have a wine rack attached under our kitchen cabinets. I use Marsala and other wines for cooking (f I can keep it from Hubby, LOL) so I always have my choice handy. I just transfer the wine to the spill proof bottle if it came with a cork. Now days, even good french wine comes with a screw top that is leak proof. I also buy the small bottles that come 4 to a box, like beer 6 packs. I keep it in the pantry and only open the bottle I need for dinner. No waste. Sorry to ramble on!! Just wanted to be sure you and others to now you can keep wine and how to do it.

We tried this out tonight on the grill instead of the crock pot. I used the chicken stock you suggested instead of white wine. We separated some of the sauce to marinade chicken tenderloins and some to drizzle on top of the cooked chicken. It turned out great! My family likes this so much better than just the plain hoisin sauce. THANKS! We also grilled the broccoli in a grill basket on the BBQ. What a quick, tasty dinner!
Vanderbilt Wife says
I kept forgetting to put this in the slow cooker in the AM, so I actually made it in the pressure cooker for lunch today. Super tasty! And I have to admit, the pressure cooker is easier to wash. I hate washing my slow cooker as much as I love using it.
Tiffany says
One of these days, I’m going to try a pressure cooker.
Beth says
Slow cooker liners are the best! No clean up at all!
Danielle says
Vanderbilt Wife I’m with you on the hatred of cleaning the crock pot. So I love the disposable crock pot liners. Try them and you’ll love them. Thanks so much for this great recipe, it’s definitely a keeper.

Another review is not necessary but here it goes. I give it 10 stars. It is easy to make and takes almost no time to put together. I did use chicken thighs instead of breast and chicken broth instead of water. Less sugar and added 1-1/2 tsp of cornstarch to thicken the sauce. Also, used about 1 TBsp of fresh grated ginger instead of ground ginger. Served over Jasmine Rice and steamed Broccoli you can’t ask for a better meal. Think I will try Shrimp the next time around.
Tiffany says
I’m glad you liked it. Thanks for sharing your review and experience with the recipe!
Lyra says
Sounds delicious over rice.
Steph says
Out of interest I’d be cooking this for only 2, how would I go about reducing quantities please?
Tiffany says
Steph – Here’s what we use on this recipe for our small menu that serves 2-3
• 2-3 small chicken breasts
• 2 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
• 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
• 2 Tbsp. honey
• 2 Tbsp. white wine or chicken broth
• 1/8 tsp. ground ginger
Hope that helps!
Steph says
Thank you for your reply, I can’t wait to try this. Xx
