Orangesicle Cookies & a giveaway!

Orangesicle Cookies

A sponsored post on behalf of Pillsbury.

If you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, you know I love cake mix cookies.  The possibilities are endless.

Recently, Pillsbury asked me to try their new Orangescicle and Key Lime flavors.  Each comes in a cookie mix and cake mix, so you can choose.

Spring is here and the weather is starting to warm up.  I think these citrus flavors are a great way to celebrate spring and sunshine.  My kids loved the cookies.  My son said to me, “You know what these taste like? Those orange popsicle treats.”  Win!  They do taste just like orange creamsicles.  Yum!

Celebrate Spring with your family!

  • Make a day trip to the zoo more special by packing a picnic lunch with these cookies for dessert.
  • Visit a park or take a short hike in the woods. Be sure to bring along sweet cookies to enjoy.
  • Make playtime in the backyard more fun, by bringing out a plate of cookies and sharing them in the sunshine!

I added vanilla baking chips to my Orangesicle cookies.  About 3/4 cup is plenty for one box of cookie mix.  Just follow the directions on the back of the cookie mix box, then stir in the white chips.

I’ve got a fun giveaway for you too!

Summer Seasonal Celebration Starter Reader Giveaway Kit:

  • ·         One box each Summer Seasonal Cake & Cookie Mixes
  • ·         Frostings (1 each of Creamy Supreme Key Lime and Creamy Supreme Orangesicle)
  • ·         $50 dollar Visa or American Express gift card

Garlic Pepper Chicken and Broccoli with Parmesan Pasta (and Sam’s Club Card giveaway!)

Broccoli, chicken and pasta.  Any meal I make with these three favorites is going to be a hit in this house.  Luckily, they’re also key ingredients for quick, weeknight meals.

For this recipe, I wanted to keep the flavors simple, but vibrant.  Black pepper is so common, we sometimes forget that it can stand on it’s own.  I didn’t want this to be too peppery for the kids, so I went a little lighter than if it had just been Jim and I eating.

I also used  Beneforté Naturally Better Broccoli.  I had the opportunity to try this veggie a few weeks ago, when I paired it in a salad with quinoa.

Beneforté broccoli is an improved nutrition broccoli.  It’s a result of cross-pollination of commercial broccoli with a wild variety found in Italy. The taste is the same, but each serving contains 2-3 times more of the plant nutrient glucoraphanin compared to other broccoli varieties. Glucoraphanin boosts the body’s antioxidant enzyme levels and these enzymes in Beneforté help maintain the antioxidant activity of vitamins A, C and E.

It’s also really clean and fresh, right out of the bag.  That makes it perfect for munching and quick to add to a recipe.

Here’s what you’ll need to make Garlic Pepper Chicken and Broccoli with Parmesan Pasta.  (Keep reading to enter the giveaway!)   [Read more...]

Candy Cane Chocolate Crinkle Cookies and a Pampered Chef Giveaway

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are one of my favorite Christmas treats.  This year, I had the idea to roll them in finely crushed candy canes, along with the powdered sugar.

The result is a deeply chocolate cookie with just the perfect hint of peppermint.  Small flecks of red candy cane make them pretty on the cookie plate.

I baked these up using Pampered Chef products for their 2012 Cookie Swap.  I love Pampered Chef.  The products are affordable and made for real people cooking at home.

I have quite a few Pampered Chef products already, but I was happy to try some new ones out.  The adjustable measuring spoons are fantastic.  I didn’t know if I would like them or not, but they’ve already become a favorite.  The cookie scoops are fantastic too.

And one thing really surprised me – the cookie sheet.  I’ve always baked my cookies on a baking stone.  That works great, but this time I used the cookie sheet, lined with parchment paper.  The cookies turned out perfectly.  No sticking.  No burning.  Just sweet perfection.  I’ll definitely be doing that again.

Below, you can see the assembly process for these cookies.  I didn’t roll the dough into balls, but just scooped it into the candy cane powdered sugar and rolled it around.  It made the process much quicker and easier than rolling all those balls.

Here’s what you’ll need to make Candy Cane Chocolate Crinkle Cookies.  Keep reading after the recipe too, because there will be a chance to win a lot of Pampered Chef products.  You’re going to love this giveaway!   [Read more...]

Apple Pie Oatmeal Sandwich Cookies

The baking season is gearing up!  Are you ready?

I love baking (and eating too), so I was really excited to get to try out Duncan Hines new Frosting Creations.  They’ve got quite a few flavors, including 4 new seasonal frosting tastes.  Our favorite so far, is the Gingerbread Frosting.  We ate most of the container with animal cookies.  Such an easy and tasty snack for fall.

Today, I’ve got a recipe to share with you that uses Apple Pie Frosting.  And I’ve got a fun giveaway from Duncan Hines and Wilton.  Keep reading to find out how to enter!

These Oatmeal Cookies start with a cake mix (you know I love cake mix), so they are really easy to make.  I spread part of them with the Apple Pie Frosting and part with Gingerbread Frosting.  Both were a hit with friends who were over for dinner on Friday night.

I’m really anxious to try the Peppermint Frosting with Devil’s Food cake.  There’s also a Pumpkin Spice flavor that would be good paired with chocolate.

Creamy Cheesy Veggie Puffs & a giveaway!

My youngest daughter and I made these for lunch one day.  They’re quick to make and a scrumptious way to eat veggies.

They’re out of this world.  No really, they are.  See the martian below.

Isn’t it cute?  And surprisingly tasty for an extraterrestrial.

I will be making these again sometime.  The cheese along with the biscuit dough reminded me of a warm version of veggie pizza.  Only puff shaped.

The short cut ingredient in this recipe is Birds Eye Steamfresh veggies.  They cook in their own bag in the microwave.  No chopping or extra dish washing required.  This makes it perfect for cooking with kids.

Oreck Steam-It Giveaway!

I have wanted a steam mop for a while now.  We recently had the grout on our tile floors in the kitchen and entry way color sealed.  The grout was stained and it drove me crazy.  Color sealing it made it look new again.

The only problem was that it has to be cleaned with water only.  No cleaners. No vinegar.  Just water.

There are 6 people living in this house, not to mention neighbor kids and others who come in and out.  And I’m in the kitchen cooking a lot too.  There is no way that water only with a regular mop was going to get it for us.

So when I got the chance to try the Oreck Steam-It, I was very excited.  Is it crazy to get excited about a mop?

I love this thing!  The floors looks great.  Even the bathroom floors that still have stained grout look great.  The grout isn’t perfect, but it’s so much cleaner than it was.

The steam mop is easy to use and light weight.  You fill it with a small funnel:

After you put the water in, turn the Steam-It on and it heats in less than a minute.

There are two different mop covers – a fuzzy, fluffy one and a less fuzzy one.  (How’s that for descriptive?)  I like the fluffy one, because I feel like it gets into the grooves of the grout better.  I’ve gotten great results with both though.

I debated on showing you this picture, because it makes it look like we’re a family of pigs living in this house, but here’s what the mop cover looked like after doing all the floors in the house.  And I didn’t think they were *that* dirty, but it shows that the Steam-It really is cleaning the floors.  This was the second time we used the Steam-It.  Each time, I think the floors get cleaner and cleaner, which is a good feeling.

The mop cover may look nasty, but my floors look amazing!  And I love that the covers can be thrown in the wash.  They come out looking clean again too.

Did I mention that I love this steam mop?

You can use the steam mop on other types of flooring too.  I’ve used it on our vinyl floors as well.  And I even steamed the top of my glass top stove.  The photos of that didn’t come out very well, but it did make the stove top look fantastic.

Oreck is going to give a Steam-It to one of you!

The winner must reside in the U.S. 48 contiguous states.  Giveaway closes on Friday night 7/13.  Winner chosen by random drawing (using And the Winner Is…plugin).

Mandatory first entry:  Visit Oreck.com and tell us one thing you learned about the Steam-It.

Optional second entry: Follow Oreck on Facebook.

Disclosure: I was given a Steam-It steam mop to try by Oreck.  All opinions are my own.  Oreck Corporation provided the prize for the sweepstakes but is not the sponsor of the sweepstakes.
