This cake is a perfect example of my foodie motto put into action. More chocolate = more better. My mom gave me the recipe for Texas Sheet Cake several years ago. I’ve made it a few times, but it wasn’t very chocolatey. After looking at other recipes for Texas Sheet Cake that I found in old church cookbooks, I decided to double the cocoa in mom’s recipe. Now we’re talking! The photo doesn’t show the color as well I wish, but the extra cocoa gave the cake a deeper color and flavor – more like brownies.

Butter Brickle Pecan Cookies
Butter brickle, Heath, Toffee – whatever you want to call it, I love it. These cookies are chock full of butter brickle chips and studded with pecans, which complements the soft cookie. They’re made with a yellow cake mix, making them as convenient as they are yummy. [Read more…] about Butter Brickle Pecan Cookies
Gooey Turtle Bars
A layer of caramel. A layer of chocolate. A layer of pecans. How can you go wrong with that?
A friend of mine gave me a recipe for Turtle Brownies probably 15 years ago. I’ve never made them. The other day I ran across the recipe, but didn’t have the right ingredients. No problem. I altered the recipe liberally and came up with Gooey Turtle Bars. Very yummy! [Read more…] about Gooey Turtle Bars
Chipotle Apple Pecan Cake
My aunt brought this cake to a family reunion in October and it was fantastic. I couldn’t really taste any heat in her cake, just very spicy. I made the cake for a dessert at a chili cook off. It was really good after the chili and again, I didn’t notice the heat. But then my lips were already burning from the chili. I did taste some heat the next day when I had a piece of the left over cake. It’s an interesting combination and very good.
The recipe is adapted from Better Homes and Gardens. My aunt ripped it out of a magazine in a doctor’s office a few years ago. I’ve always wondered who is ripping recipes out of magazines in public places. I’ll protect the identity of my aunt though. And because I have 12 aunts, it would be tough for you to figure out which one is responsible. [Read more…] about Chipotle Apple Pecan Cake
Apple Pecan Sticky Rolls
Oh, how I wish I could pull this out of the computer screen. I made them last night, ate two and I’ve been craving more ever since. I’d had a bag of frozen roll dough tucked in my freezer for a while now, waiting for the perfect inspiration. It was worth the wait.
I found a recipe for Apple Pull Apart Rolls and tweaked it. I swapped out brown sugar for white, increased the sweet gooey stuff, added pecans and spiced it up a bit. Oh my! These are fit for Christmas morning. But they’re easy enough for a plain old Tuesday night. [Read more…] about Apple Pecan Sticky Rolls
