4 ingredients (6 if you count the cheese and buns) + 1 slow cooker = 1 splendiferous dinner. And, in case you wondered, splendiferous is in the online thesaurus. It’s a more funtastic word than “good”, don’t you think?
I used cube steaks to make these sandwiches, but you can use round steak or another cut if you like. Here’s what you’ll need:
French Dip Sandwiches in the Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. cube steak
- 1 green pepper sliced
- 1 large or 2 small onions sliced
- 1 Tbs. worcestershire sauce
- provolone cheese slices
- sub buns
Instructions
- Place the steak, peppers and onions in the slow cooker.
- Cook 5-6 hours on high or 7-8 on low.
- Slice the steak into strips.
- Place on buns and top with cheese.
- Broil in the oven until cheese is melted.
- Serve the the broth from the slow cooker.

I tried this recipe as written and ended up with hockey pucks in the bottom of my crockpot.
There must be some step missing that adds moisture to the process.
Tiffany says
I’m sorry it didn’t turn out. It could be that your crockpot is bigger than what you needed for the amount of food int it. That will cause it to cook too hot.
Lynn says
Can you put all the ingredients together in one bag and put it in the freezer?
Tiffany says
Yes, that will work.

Awesome recipe! Added a can of beef broth and some garlic. My husband loved it! Thanks 🙂
Jami says
I assume the worcestershire goes in with the steak, onions and peppers? Can’t believe there’s no other liquids in the recipe!! What size slow cooker?
Anonymous says
I know you would think it needs more liquid to cook in the crocpot
Liz T says
Are you putting the meat in frozen or thawed? I can’t imagine 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce is enough to cook a 2 lb cube steak. But I don’t use my crockpot very often so please explain! 🙂
Tiffany says
Liz, I sometimes do the meat frozen or partially frozen. Because the onions and beef create liquid as they cook, you really only will need 1 Tbs. worcestershire sauce. There will be plenty of liquid.

Making these tonight!!!…Can’t wait… I have a big crock pot so hoping that they will still turn out.. will cook on warm…
Tiffany says
Sara, you mean low, not warm, right? I don’t think warm will be hot enough to cook them.
Sara says
yes Low 😉 sometimes I DO have to use warm.. it’s a HOT crock 😉 thanks!

I thought that’s what you meant, but sometimes I have brand new cooks visit the site and I wanted to be sure. Hope you like the sandwiches!
