Make Dinner with 5 Ingredients or Less!

Ever feel overwhelmed by complicated recipes and long grocery lists? I think a lot of us do at one point or another. Several years ago, I wrote a couple of blog posts featuring some of my favorite recipes that call for 5 ingredients or less. It was a big hit! I often turn to recipes with just a few ingredients when I’m busy or haven’t been able to shop for a while…or sometimes just because I don’t feel like doing anything more complicated than I have to! I enjoy creating things in the kitchen, but I’m of the mind that cooking on weeknights shouldn’t be overwhelming. Cooking is fun, but it doesn’t have to include mile-long ingredient lists, either.

Since I wrote that Main Dishes that use five ingredients or less post, I’ve come up with quite a few more recipes that need just a few ingredients to make. In fact, when I updated the post I found at least 60 of them on here! I have to say, I still use these recipes regularly and my family always loves them.

So if you are looking for a fast, easy dinner option that doesn’t take many ingredients, check out the post and see what you think! I’d love to hear which ones are your favorites and if you have any go-to recipes that are simple like these that I could try out myself in the future!

Easy, Shredded Taco Beef in the Slow Cooker

Chicken tacos are a staple in my house. It’s an easy go-to when I don’t know what else to make. One week when I told my husband I was going to make them – again – he asked me, “Why don’t you ever make beef tacos?” After that, it became my mission to figure out a great, equally-easy beef taco recipe. This is the winner.

3 Ingredient Main Dish Recipes – aka Super Simple Suppers

I love keeping things simple in my home.  Especially, when it comes to weeknight dinner prep.  One way to cut down on cooking time and to streamline dinner prep is to use just a few, basic ingredients in your recipes.  It’s not always possible, but there are many main dishes that can be made with as few as just 3 ingredients!
If you are worried that cutting down on ingredients means cutting down on flavor, never fear! These recipes may be incredibly simple, but the flavors they carry are delicious and family approved. I consider them some of our favorites!

For these, I didn’t count salt and pepper as ingredients.  That was too nit-picky.  I also counted the rice in the first recipe as a side, not an ingredient for the dish.

If you need dinner in a hurry, or have limited ingredients to work with, check these out and let me know which one is your favorite!

Magically Delicious Cereal Treats

With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, I decided to make a themed treat for my kids.  I thought I was being very original in using Lucky Charms cereal (because what says St.Patrick’s Day more than a leprechaun and green clovers, right?!)  Turns out, this has been done many times before. Oh well, I thought I was being creative!

I made these just like traditional rice cereal treats, except I browned my butter.  I’ve discovered that brown butter is truly amazing stuff.   [Read more…]

Teriyaki BBQ Chicken Legs in the Slow Cooker

3 ingredients and a slow cooker.  This couldn’t be simpler to throw together.

And it’s really good too!  I’m not sure why I thought to mix Teriyaki  and BBQ sauces, but the combination makes a flavorful sauce that was a hit with the kids.

Pesto and Crushed Tomato Shells – 3 Ingredients, 15 Minutes

So I just read the title and it is a bit misleading.  This recipe contains no shell of tomato, crushed or otherwise.

It does have pesto, crushed tomatoes and pasta shells.  And that’s it, except the mozzarella cheese sprinkled on top.  Because you know how I can’t resist cheese.

15 minutes, start to finish and that includes time to boil the water.  Throw a salad at it and call it dinner, and a good one too.
