Creamy and filling, Instant Pot Split Pea Soup with Ham will warm you up in a jiffy.
Instant Pot Split Pea Soup with Ham
Split Pea Soup is a family favorite. It’s one of the dishes my grandmother used to make and we’d all sit around her giant dining table sopping up the broth with bread from the deli.
This recipe is a bit different than Grandma’s – she used to cut up hot dogs into hers… and she never knew the speedy beauty of the Instant Pot.
Split Pea Soup traditionally takes several hours, because the dried split peas need time to cook. Instant Pot Split Pea Soup with Ham speeds up the time considerably, making it a viable weeknight option.
There are so many layers of delicious flavors in this Instant Pot Split Pea Soup with Ham! I use a ham steak with the bone, instead of Grandma’s beloved hot dogs! Then I toss in some vegetables and spices. At the end of the cook time, you add some milk and half and half to give the soup it’s creamy texture. Once these are warmed through, the soup is ready to serve.
As a sucker for tradition, I still love to serve Instant Pot Split Pea Soup with Ham with a loaf of crusty, deli-style bread. Cornbread, pretzel rolls, or a big salad would all be great options too.
Split Pea Soup with Ham can also be made in the slow cooker if you have more time in the morning to load up the slow cooker than you do to fill up the Instant Pot closer to dinner time.
