Slow Cooker Hawaiian Luau Meatballs

I don’t think it gets easier than this recipe.  When Campbell’s asked me to try another one of their Dinner Sauces to create a Christmas or New Year’s recipe, I knew what I wanted to try.

We love little cocktail meatballs and I knew Campbell’s Hawaiian Luau Dinner Sauce would make them great.  I was right!  I bumped up the pineapple in the sauce by adding a can of pineapple chunks.  The sauce also has red bell pepper in it.  It’s full of flavor and a nice twist on traditional cocktail meatballs.

These are perfect to serve at a party, but they also make a great dinner.  We had them served over rice with broccoli on the side.

Here’s what you’ll need for this easy recipe:

Slow Cooker Hawaiian Luau Meatballs
  • 1 bag frozen meatballs
  • 1 packet Campbell's Dinner Sauce Hawaiian Luau
  • 20 oz can pineapple chunks
  1. Place meatballs and Dinner Sauce in slow cooker.
  2. Cook on low 7-8 hours or high 5-6 hours.
  3. Stir pineapple into the slow cooker 30 minutes before serving.

    • Dana, I believe it was near the spaghetti sauces. At least in one store it was. I shopped another store for it too. I’m not as familiar with that store, but I don’t think it was with the spaghetti sauce. I can’t remember what was near it.

  3. This looks tasty, but I’m wondering if you may know of another way to make the sauce instead of buying it? The sugar and carb content is pretty high in the bag!

  4. I’m trying to think of a way to phrase this respectfully, because I do enjoy your blog. But while quick and easy is important, so is quality. This is a highly processed meal. If you are serious enough about your nutrition/health to be doing Whole 30 in January, I hope that you will also start looking at food labels. I think if you look at the ingredients for the Campbell’s sauce and the premade meatballs, you might rethink things a bit.

    Or perhaps we just have differing priorities. Again, I apologize if this comment seems harsh, as I do enjoy your blog.

    • Amen, Nev. I pinned this because it looked perfect for my 8 yr olds luau birthday party but after reading it in detail there is no way I can use it as is … we are a gluten free, no processed food family. I will definitely attempt a recreation so that it is a “clean” meal.

    These sound perfect for our annual summer luau, but I’m having trouble finding Campbell’s Dinner Sauce. Is it the same as Skillet Sauce? I’ve found those in my local grocery store, but not in the Hawaiian Luau flavor. Any suggestions?

    • Hmmm, I think there’s a slow cooker sauce. But you could use homemade sweet and sour sauce or buy a bottle of sweet and sour to use. It would be a little different, but still good.

  7. I saw this recipe and thought it would be a fun family dinner. I lived in Hawaii for years. I make a variation of this from scratch. I made the meatballs with 50/50 ground pork and turkey, I seasoned the meat with garlic salt, a little grated ginger, white pepper and some paprika. I added an egg and some panko breadcrumbs, and a small diced onion and seared the meatballs in before adding them to the crockpot. For the sauce I mixed together the pineapple juice from the can of pineapple, 2 cloves of minced garlic, a couple tablespoons of soy sauce, half a can of tomato paste, a cup of chicken stock and a tablespoon of cornstarch. I also added some siracha as we like spicy food, but it could be easily omitted. I served these over rice, and with some bell pepper, broccoli and bok choy. I cooked mine on low for 5 hours and they were delicious, but I’d be careful about overcooking them as turkey can get very dry. I hope this helps to give some ideas to the people who didn’t want to use the pre-prepared meatballs and sauce.

    • I had all of the ingredients on hand; frozen beef/pork mix meatloaf uncooked I made into meatballs, a small baggie of already cooked meatballs, pineapple chunks, green pepper and all of the ingredients for the sauce. Sauteed the meatballs, sliced the pepper and onion and made the sauce. I would add the green pepper and any bok choy about 15 mins to 1/2 hour before serving into the slow cooker without stirring, cooking until tender. Sauce was perfect! Cooked on high for 3 hours.
