Warm from the oven or grabbed as a quick snack, this cake is yummy either way. This is a recipe my mom used to make when I was growing up. One of the beauties of it is the ingredients are things I almost always have on hand.

Kentucky Chocolate Nut Pie for the Derby
The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Even if you’ve never watched a horse race before, the Derby is the perfect excuse to make this pie. I made two of them over the weekend. They didn’t last 24 hours.

Great things about this recipe: it can be made ahead of time, is served cold, can be packed up for a picnic or lunch on the go. The crunch of the celery and nuts pairs perfectly with the sweet grapes and chicken.
Square Foot Garden – We’ve Got Plants
I shared a few weeks ago that we are attempting to grow our own produce in the backyard. Although we have no grand ideas about growing all the veggies we eat, we do have high hopes for tomatoes and a few other things. My husband and kids planted a few things about 1 1/2 weeks ago and they are coming up now.
