Ingredient Spotlight: Soy Sauce 2012

We love Asian foods, so soy sauce is a favorite around here.

But you don’t have to use it only in Asian cuisine.  Try a splash in chicken casseroles and gravy.  It adds a depth of flavor that can really perk up a dish.

Here are some of my recipes that use soy sauce:

  3. I did an ingredient search for soy sauce on my blog and realized I have tons!! So, I picked some of my favorites, ones where I didn’t see something comparable already linked, and posted them.

Jen’s chicken (#14) is delicious and super easy to make when you toss it in a crockpot. The chicken and green bean stir fry (#19) is one of my favorite meals. Thai chicken and coconut rice (#17) is a wonderful comfort food. The grilled salmon (#12) is a recipe we discovered when Tim started catching salmon last summer and I could eat it every day. The marinade (#13) is tasty and I’d like to try it on some non-chicken foods. The soy ginger dipping sauce (#20) makes a fun dish when paired with scallion pancakes. The sweet & sour meatballs (#18) are yummy. Rice, kale, & eggs (#15) is one of my favorite things to make when time is short and we’re all starving. Peanut butter noodles (#16) are great as is, but even better when sprinkled with chopped cucumber and red bell pepper.

  4. I have to thank you for the slow cooker chicken and rice recipe. The last time my father was able to visit our home before he passed away, I fixed that for dinner one night and he liked it so much he asked me to make it again. I think of him every time I serve it now. Thank you again for a pleasing recipe that will forever bring fond memories of special times to me.

    • Wendy, thank you for sharing this story of your father. I’m sorry for your loss. It’s amazing how food and relationships are so entwined; how food helps us connect to memories and loved ones.

  5. I consider soy sauce (I use low sodium) a kitchen staple and keep it on hand at all times. I must use it at least once a week. Today I bring Oriental Pasta. This is a versatile recipe that can be made with spaghetti, noodles, angel hair, etc. It is a nice dish to serve with any Oriental inspired main dish. Thanks for hosting. You know I love this party. Have a great week.
