I’m on a roll with slow cooked desserts. This apple crisp is an adaptation of my Apple Crinkle.
I decided to give it a whirl in the slow cooker and it turned out beautifully. I dressed it up a bit with a handful of dried cranberries and chopped pecans.
My mouth is watering as I write this post. I must make this again soon!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup brown sugar (dark brown is best)
- 1 cup quick oats
- ½ cup flour
- ¼ cup butter
- 3-4 cups peeled and sliced apples
- ¼ cup dried cranberries
- ¼ cup chopped pecans
- ¾ cup water
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- Stir brown sugar, oats and flour together. Cut the butter in with a pastry blender or fork to make soft crumbs.
- Combine the apples, cranberries and pecans in a large bowl. Stir in half the crumbs, mixing to coat all the apples. Pour into greased crock of the slow cooker.
- Stir water, sugar and cinnamon together. Pour over apples.
- Top with remaining crumbs.
- Put the lid on the slow cooker. Cook on high for 3 hours or low for 5-6 hours. Open and let rest a few minutes before serving. This will allow the extra liquid to thicken.

How often do you use your slow cooker for dessert?

Hi Tiffany,
What a great dessert! We will be celebrating my husband’s birthday this Sunday with a family dinner and your apple crisp will make a wonderful accompaniment to the braised chicken I’ll be making. And I love that I can do it in the crock-pot!! I am actually going to serve this as a side dish along with some sweet potatoes…a perfect fall combo! Sort of like the famous Fried Apples at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant.
So glad I recently discovered your blog!
Love,
Mary

Did I miss it? What do you do with the other half of the crumb mixture? The recipe never said. I’m assuming you top the mixture with it, but do you do it at the beginning of the cooking time?
Tiffany says
Paula, I edited the recipe. Yes, you top the mixture with the crumbs before cooking.
Rebecca says
The recipe only says to use of half the crumbs when mixing in the apples. When do you use the rest of them?
Tiffany says
Rebecca, I updated the recipe. Put the rest of the crumbs on top of the apples.

I just put this going in the slow cooker! I didn’t have any dried cranberries so I used a cup of frozen cranberries instead. Thanks for the recipe!

I’ve got to try this – I have all these apples from last weekend and then no time to turn them into anything. Slow cooker will definitely help that. Thank you!!!

Just starting to get colder here so Im looking forward to the Apple Crisp. I have to get the chicken out of the slow cooker first 🙂
Lynn Beumer says
Yes, I put the second half of the crumbs on top of the apples, but should they be sprinkled before or after the water, sugar, cinnamon mixture?
Thanks.
Lynn
Tiffany says
Lynn, Put the remaining crumbs on top last, after the water/sugar mix.

I made this dish yesterday for thanksgiving dinner. It was delicious. I have never cooked a desert in the slow cooker so i was a little worried. It came out less crunchy on the top then it would have if baked in the oven. Needless to say, everyone enjoyed it. Thank you for the recipe!

I made this today. I usually find american recipes too sweet, so I added less sugar to the crumbs and less to the water. It was still a bit too sweet for our tastebuds, but I will be making it again, as we liked it otherwise.
Leslie Burckard says
What size of Crock Pot. ?? Thanks.
Tiffany says
Leslie, 4 or 5 quart crock will work.
Nancy says
Dried cherries would work very well, too. Not QUITE as tart as cranberries, but still cuts back the sweetness and adds the beautiful red accent color.
Tiffany says
Nancy, great idea to use cherries! I love anything with cherries, so I’ll be trying that next time 🙂
Katie says
About how many servings does this make?
Tiffany says
It should be about 6-8 servings.

Also I have been informed that adding ab out 1 cup of raisins to this Apple Crisp recipe will work out superb.
Will try it later today.

I am wanting to make this it sounds “yummly”, anyways im just wondering what are some other fruits you would substitute for cranberries?? I was thinking maybe blueberries? any suggestions?
Tiffany says
Holly, you can leave out the cranberries if you don’t like them. I’ve done that many times.
Nichole says
yummy! Going to try this for my MOPS group! Does it still turn out if I double the recipe and would I cook it longer?
