I don’t know if you’ve noticed this about me or not, but I tend to be a simple person. On top of that, I’m lazy. I always think I’m going to try grilling corn on the cob like I’ve seen other food bloggers do, but then I’m in a hurry and I don’t feel like messing with it. I fall back on my old habit of microwaving it instead. It works just as well as boiling it and it’s easier.
Put the shucked, cleaned ears of corn in a microwaveable dish. You can break them in half if you like. Top with plenty of butter pats and sprinkle with salt. Microwave for about 10 or 11 minutes. That’s it. Roll each ear around in the bottom of the pan before you put it on the plates and it’s pre-buttered.
Maybe I should rename this site “Simple Recipes for Lazy People”. Or maybe that just describes me 🙂

Visiting from SITS. Simple Recipes for Lazy People sounds perfect for me. I am basically lazy when it comes to cooking – which is something I do NOT enjoy. Never thought to microwave corn on the cob! Brilliant. You just might be new bloggy BFF! LOL!

I have microwaved my corn for years. We love it. It also does not heat up the kitchen like a big pot of boiling water.

YUM. I could eat this stuff by the pound!

Here’s something else (even more lazy) to try. I love fresh corn, but have always hated shucking it and pulling off all the silks. I was told by a farmer at our local farmer’s market that you can microwave the corn right in the shucks. When it’s done pull it out, cut of the end, and squeeze the corn out – no silks and perfectly done. I tried it and it works!
Tiffany says
Karen, that is a great idea. Getting the silks off easily is a bonus. I’m going to have to try that.

How long do you cook the cook in the microwave.

Love it! Our grill isn’t big enough for a main dish and corn. And I Love Karen’s idea!

Oh, Bless You!
I am food/cooking/grill challenged. I love the taste of grilled corn but don’t like fixing it. Now I have an easier way to make it!
Brenda says
I have never attempt microwaving corn on the cob…I’ve heard others talk about it, but I’ve always been afraid to try it…I was afraid I would blow up the cobs…grin..
Jennifer says
I have never tried it either. I usually boil mine, although I have been really wanting to try grilling our corn on the cob. I may never get that together in time. Thanks for this simple, yet very helpful post!

I am so excited about this idea! This will keep my kitchen from getting so hot, too! This will definitely make it easier to eat corn on the cob this summer. Thanks for sharing!

What a great idea – I’ll be trying this at the weekend!

I doubt that you are lazy…but those sound like my kind of recipes 🙂

I had no idea you could microwave corn on the cob. We had it tonight, but grilled. I will have to try nuking it next time, a lot less mess!
Beth says
LOVE this idea!!! We can’t have our air conditioner on at the same time as the stove top b/c the breeze blows out the burners! Now I can have my corn and my cold air!!!! 🙂

I’ve been microwaving corn since microwaves were invented! And yes in a Pyrex dish. Not in a plastic bag or paper towel. This recipe is the best.
Great for pre-cooking then just a couple of minutes on the grill for that taste and color.
