Full of flavor with a bit of a kick, these sandwiches are delish!  I found the recipe on the blog of one of my readers, Sherri.  She has a great recipe blog called Everything in Moderation.  My husband, who likes spicy foods loved these, but so did my youngest son who likes things plain.  We just didn’t add the peppers to his sandwich and he didn’t use the dipping sauce.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Italian Beef Sandwiches in the Crockpot

Ingredients

  • 1 large roast fat trimmed if needed
  • 1 package Good Seasons Italian dressing
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • 1-2 cans chicken broth I used 1
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 package brown gravy mix mixed with 1 cup water
  • 1 green pepper sliced
  • 1 small jar pepperoccinis with juice

Instructions

  • Poke the meat with a fork or knife and put it in the crockpot.
  • Mix all the ingredients and pour over the meat.
  • Let it marinade overnight in the refrigerator or cook it right away on low for 8-10 hours. Or, be like me and don’t fix it until lunch time then crank it up on high and cook it for 5-6 hours.
  • Shred the meat and serve on hoagie buns with the peppers and sauce for dipping.

  2. We make this too. We also add in red and yellow peppers. I also like the idea of the broth. My recipe used water. We did just good seasons and no brown gravy mix.

    Ah! You shop Kroger. I’m so jealous..from OH.

  3. This looks wonderful! I have to start incorporating your recipes into my weekly menus so I have the ingredients already on hand instead of dreaming about making these.

    Thanks for all the work you do and for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us. I don’t like to cook but your food has me actually fixing more than a bowl of cereal for supper.

  4. Ooooooh, it sounds sooo good. I must cook this for my husband, immediately! I often run into “What to cook, what to cook.” I’ll just stop on by, and have a look see.

  5. I do the same thing but here is how I do it:

    Large roast
    entire jar with juice of peppers
    1 packet of onion soup
    garlic powder
    sweet paprika
    Lawry’s seasing salt
    1/2 can beer or soda, diet or regular
    1 packet of aujus mixed with water, added the last 30 minutes

    I cook it in the crockpot as well. Served on hogie buns with provolone cheese. Oh my! It is soooo good. I planted some pepper plants in the garden and nothing is better than fresh ones. I’ll have to try yours.

  8. my favorite ‘even lazier’ is to take the roast out of the freezer and crock it frozen. Good if it’s going to cook in the crockpot all day.

  9. Have you tried making this with the sliced pepperocinis? Just thought it would make it easier to eat than the whole ones. I’m very excited to try this this weekend!

    1. Mary, the sliced pepperocinis would be easier to eat. The whole ones are easier for the kids to pick out, so I guess it depends on your family. Good idea on using sliced!

  10. I have been looking forward to this recipe for a week now. I prepared it last night and this morning popped it into the crock pot at 7:30am. I got home at 7pm and the meat was cooked but really tough. I had cooked it on low all day and didn’t expect that at all. I turned it to high and it is just now at nearly 10pm starting to become tender.

    Anyone else have this problem?? Seems any time I try anything with a roast it doesn’t work.

  11. In the crock and looking/smelling wonderful.I went by your recipe except for the pepperoncini.Didn’t have any so I used juice from medium jar of banana peppers,added fresh sweet peppers and also two jalapeno’s minus the seeds.

  13. I tried this an absolutely love it. The only thing I didn’t add was the pepperoccinis. I didn’t know what it was and I was looking for pepperonis. LOL but Next time I will add lots more peppers and onion. I did cut my roast into smaller bits so it would cook faster. It cooked into tender meat in 5 hours. Also added some mozzarella cheese. Hubby doesn’t usually like any NEW recipe I try but he loved this. Looking forward to the bbq chicken fajitas tonight. I am in love with this site. makes shopping and cooking EASY!!!

  15. I made this last night and it was delicious and so easy! Thank you! My only question is how did yours get so tender that it pulled apart? Mine was tough and well done at 5 hours so I turned it off. does it need to cook the full 10 hours for it to fall apart? It was delicious all the same.
