So here’s the story – The Prep and Planning series that I’m doing with Liz from Hoosier Homemade starts today and we’d decided to do homemade gift ideas from the kitchen for the first week.
Friday night came and I knew I had to come up with an idea for today’s post. I had nothing. Squat nada. Zilch.
But, a tiny bit of holiday magic happened and I woke up Saturday morning with the idea for snack mix in jars.
Not totally original, maybe, but I think it’s the perfect idea. I had no time to bake or cook. I’m a no-fuss gift giver. I’m not good at beautiful, well planned gifts.
This is perfect for me! Everything looks better in a Mason jar, right?
Ever since I put these together on Sunday afternoon, my family has been munching on them. I had to beat them off with a stick until I could take the photos.
I’ve got 4 snack mix ideas here, but use these just as a jumping off point. Feel free to do your own thing. I really wanted to do a Circus Mix with iced animal cookies, colorful marshmallows, peanuts and…whatever else sounded good. I also think a Coffee Break Mix with chocolate covered coffee beans and other stuff sounds great. Use your imagination and invent your own. Or use the ideas below.
Bonus: There’s a free printable to go with the Hollywood Mix. I bribed my daughter into making it for us and I think she did a great job!
Here are the 4 mixes, all jarred up and looking cute.
First up, Hollywood Mix
This won the “best mix” award from my family. Plus, you can download the cute printable to go with it. Pair it up with a classic movie DVD for more fun.

Ingredients
- 8.75 oz black M&Ms (found in candy section of grocery store)
- 5 oz Flipz white chocolate covered pretzels
- 8 oz yogurt covered raisins
- 1 cup Special Dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Stir all ingredients together.
- Store in air tight containers.
- Makes about 3 pint jars.
This mix tastes just like banana pudding. Well, if you could hold banana pudding in your hand and munch it with your fingers. Delish!
Ingredients
- 8 oz bite-sized vanilla wafers
- 7-8 oz banana chips (found in produce section of grocery store)
- 12 oz white baking chips
Instructions
- Stir all ingredients together.
- Store in air tight container.
- Makes about 4 pint jars.
Peanuts, chocolate and bananas, together at last.
Ingredients
- 15 oz Reece's Pieces
- 7-8 oz banana chips
- 12 oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup peanuts
Instructions
- Stir all ingredients together.
- Store in air tight container.
- Makes about 4 pint jars.
I love these dark cocoa covered almonds and they pair up well with the mixed berries. This would make a perfect snack to keep on your desk at the office.
Ingredients
- 5 oz mixed dried berries
- 11 oz dark chocolate covered almonds (found in party foods/nuts section of grocery store)
Instructions
- Stir together.
- Store in air tight containers.
- Makes about 2 pint jars.
I’m going to make more of these so I have them to give during the holiday season. I think I’ll hide them, so my family doesn’t eat them all. Do you have other ideas for make-ahead snack mixes?

Such a great idea! To be honest, I have very little money (if any at all) to spend this year on gifts…this is great. I didn’t really know how to tell everyone I didn’t have money for gifts for them…..but now I can fill their tummies with love and not drain my wallet!

I love the ideas and names of your snack mixes!! Snack mix in a jar may not sound original, but your spin on these is a great creative touch! They all sound like terrific combinations to me.
Oh my goodness, I LOVE this! I would love to do a whole baking week to make delicious treats for our family and friends. But, with a two year old and 5 month old, I am lucky to get dinner on the table each night. What a great way to make an easy, homemade treat for Christmas. Thanks so much for sharing!
How about calling the dark chocolate, almond, and dried berries mix the “Antioxidant Mix” or something like that? All of those things are soooooooooo tasty but still good for you!

Perfect! I love that I found this post with this awesome solution to my problem! For years I have been making various hot chocolate mixes as jarred gifts at Christmas. But now we live in CA where it is sunny and warm all. the. time. I knew I couldn’t give hot chocolate mix but wasn’t sure what I could do instead. Oh – thank you! This is so perfect!

How long will the Hollywood mix stay good for once I put it into the jar?
It should stay good for a pretty long time. Definitely into New Year’s or even Valentine’s Day. However, once you give it to someone I don’t think it will last long at all. My family finished it all off in pretty short order

I’ll call it Vader mix (you know the dark side & light side)–we have such big Star Wars Fans around here. Now for a Super Hero Mix, Hogwart’s Mix & a Princess Mix.
Thinking of adding those shaped fruit snacks I never buy. BTW these are for adults (I wouldn’t go so far as to call them grown-ups).
