This is a dangerous dessert for me to make.  I love them!  They are so buttery tasting that I have trouble stopping with one.  Or two. Or more.

This is an adaptation of Pioneer Woman’s Apricot Oat Bars.  However, I have a recipe exactly like hers that I printed off the internet sometime in the 90s.  So I’m not sure where the recipe originated.  I must thank whoever created it.  These bars are fabulous and the cherry version is delicious too.

I don’t have an ingredient picture for you this time.  I was in a hurry when I made these and didn’t take the time for an extra photo.  The ingredients are all very common though.  You probably have everything you need to make them, except the jam.

Cherry Oat Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups quick oats
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 sticks butter softened
  • 10-12 oz cherry preserves

Instructions

  • Put all ingredients except preserves in mixing bowl and mix until well combined.
  • Press half of mixture into buttered square baking pan.
  • Spread jam on top.
  • Put remaining mixture on top of jam. Spread with your hands to cover jam and gently press flat.
  • Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes.
  • Cool completely before serving. These really do taste better at room temperature.

    1. I doubled the recipe to make them with strawberry preserves and orange cranberry marmalade. They are delicious. I will definitely be making these again and trying cherry preserves.

  1. These sound SO yummy! I love how easy it would be to vary the flavor with different preserves too. I’m pretty sure I’ve had a raspberry dessert very similar to this.

  2. I made these, and oh my goodness! They were so good! Mine were a little gooey, but who cares! Heat those lovely things up, put a little vanilla ice cream on there, and voila! Cherry crisp!

  3. They look delicious. Silly question but what are cherry “preserves”? Can I buy them at the local grocery store? Is it like cherry pie filling? Thanks:)

  4. Thanks for the recipe. I actually have cherry preserves, because they are my fave… I also have some fig jam that might have to be tried!

  5. I loved this recipe! I was looking for something to use up the jar of cherry preserves I bought by mistake and came across this recipe. I think I might have to buy some more by mistake again!

  6. How long/well do these keep? I’m going to take them to my Bible study on Wednesday, but would love to make them this weekend when I have some extra time. Thanks!
