I love a 3 ingredient recipe.  Three ingredients means it’s got to be fast to fix.  This one has the bonus of being able to cook in the oven or slow cooker.  You can choose your appliance of choice based on time available.

This is a great way to use up small amounts of bbq sauce and salad dressing.  Get creative and experiment. Here’s how I did it this time:

  • 1/2 cup bbq sauce
  • 1/2 cup Italian dressing
  • 1 1/2 lbs. boneless chicken breast

Mix the bbq and dressing together.  Pour over the top of the chicken.  Bake at 350 degrees for an hour or slow cook it for 5-6 hours on high or 7-8 hours on low.

I’m so lazy, I didn’t even thaw the chicken first.

Change this up by using any kind of bbq sauce or a combination and any type of dressing that sounds good.  Instead of boneless chicken, you could use any chicken cut or even a whole chicken.  Increase the cooking time to match the type of meat you use.

  1. I always cook boneless skinless chicken breasts without thawing them first. I swear it helps them stay moist inside. Sweet Baby Ray’s is my favorite bottled BBQ sauce. Love it!

  2. Great minds think alike. My post today was about throwing chicken and bbq sauce in my slow cooker (always use Sweet Baby Rays in this house!). I’ve never thought to add italian dressing. Next time I make this I will try your version.

I added a link to your post today 🙂

    Thanks for sharing the idea.

  3. This looks too Good! I want to try this on the BBQ Grill, low and slow using indirect heat!!! 🙂
Tiffany, have you have any luck using your BBQ Grill for anything lately? Or is it still too cold for that as of yet?

    1. Sunny, I grilled some pork chops the other day. And several weeks ago it was nice on a Saturday and I grilled and sliced a bunch of chicken to freeze. Looking forward to our first burgers of the season though!

  4. I made this for dinner last night on a whim and used frozen boneless, skinless chicken tenders. I baked it in the oven for about 30 minutes. Perfect! I served it with corn, for it was the only veggie I had on hand. The sweetness of the corn mixed with the “zingyness” of the bbq sauce was delicious!

Thanks so much for sharing. I LOVE your site! 🙂

  5. Thank you for sharing this ! I often use my slow cooker at least one night a week-if not more ;). I can’t wait to try this!

  6. My chicken created quiet a bit of broth, diluting the BBQ goodness. I used a whole pre-cut (bone in ) chicken. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions?

    1. Kristie, I’m not sure there’s a good solution for this other than to serve extra bbq sauce with it. Whole chickens will create quite a bit of broth. They taste good though!
