Every week I buy a box of oats at the grocery. We don’t use a whole box in a week. At least not usually. But it’s one of those ingredients that I know we use a lot of.
I don’t want to run out of oats. It makes the oat breakfast eaters upset.
But because we don’t use a whole box in a week, there’s currently a stash of 6 boxes of oats in the cupboard. I may have a problem.
I’m an oat hoarder.
But I know as soon as I stop buying oats, we’ll run out. There won’t be any for breakfast or a chocolate-craving batch of no-bake cookies.
(And because I’m on a confession roll, I’ll also admit to hoarding chocolate syrup. Please tell me I’m not alone!)
Thankfully, oats are part of a wide variety of recipes. Here are some of my favorite ways to use them:
- Homemade Grab and Go Snack Bars
- Cherry Oat Bars
- Smoked Sausage, Cabbage and Oat Soup – This uses steel cut oats.
- Slow Cooker Peaches and Cream Oatmeal

I feel the same about oats! I feel like I buy a huge container every other time I go to the grocery store. I think I might have three in my pantry now 🙂
Thanks for hosting! I love the ingredient spotlights

This has to be my favorite ingredient spotlight yet! Like you, I’m an oat hoarder…love that term! There’s just so many great things you can do with oats, that we buy them by the giant package-ful…is that a word???…at Costco, and they don’t last long in our house. Thanks for hosting another great spotlight!!!

Well, Tiffany, I have four unopened boxes of oatmeal in my pantry, plus two opened ones. I guess I am a hoarder, too. I always stock up when it is on sale as I don’t want to run out or pay regular price. I use oatmeal in many things including smoothies. Today I bring a couple of recipes from my blog-Praline Oatmeal Shortbread Squares and Peanut Butter Oatmeal Drops which are no-bake cookies without the chocolate. Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful week.

Although I don’t hoard the chocolate syrup my husband likes to open about every bottle I buy while I have a bottle or 2 half full in the fridge… not sure why.
