Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are one of my favorite Christmas treats.  This year, I had the idea to roll them in finely crushed candy canes, along with the powdered sugar.

The result is a deeply chocolate cookie with just the perfect hint of peppermint.  Small flecks of red candy cane make them pretty on the cookie plate.

I baked these up using Pampered Chef products for their 2012 Cookie Swap.  I love Pampered Chef.  The products are affordable and made for real people cooking at home.

I have quite a few Pampered Chef products already, but I was happy to try some new ones out.  The adjustable measuring spoons are fantastic.  I didn’t know if I would like them or not, but they’ve already become a favorite.  The cookie scoops are fantastic too.

And one thing really surprised me – the cookie sheet.  I’ve always baked my cookies on a baking stone.  That works great, but this time I used the cookie sheet, lined with parchment paper.  The cookies turned out perfectly.  No sticking.  No burning.  Just sweet perfection.  I’ll definitely be doing that again.

Below, you can see the assembly process for these cookies.  I didn’t roll the dough into balls, but just scooped it into the candy cane powdered sugar and rolled it around.  It made the process much quicker and easier than rolling all those balls.

Here’s what you’ll need to make Candy Cane Chocolate Crinkle Cookies.

Candy Cane Chocolate Crinkle Cookies and a Pampered Chef Giveaway

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 - 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 finely crushed candy canes

Instructions

  • Melt chocolate in microwave. Stir in the oil.
  • In a mixer bowl, mix chocolate and oil mixture with sugar.
  • Mix in eggs till well blended.
  • Add other ingredients (except powdered sugar and candy canes) and mix till well blended.
  • Refrigerate for several hours.
  • Stir powdered sugar and crushed candy canes together in small bowl.
  • Use small Pampered Chef cookie scoop or teaspoons to drop dough into powdered sugar mixture, one at a time.
  • Roll each one to cover in powdered sugar.
  • Bake on greased cookie sheet or parchment paper covered cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 9 minutes.

Notes

Instead of baking chocolate, you can substitute 3 Tbs. cocoa and 1 Tbs. vegetable oil for each square of chocolate.

  7. I’ve made these before with a slight modification…I rolled them in crushed candy canes only. Many times, the candy canes melted, leaving a hard, crunchy, sticky outside (and a very sticky cookie sheet!), though the inside was good. I never thought to mix the candy canes with powdered sugar; I’ll have to give it a try!

  8. Our favorite cookie is called a Ranger cookie and the recipe is out of an old church cookbook from the 1940’s! It’s chewy & crisp with oatmeal, crushed cereal and coconut. . . yum!

  9. We have a triple threat chocolate cookie from a food&wine magazine just before my first born arrived. They have been my favorite for the past 11 yrs now and hold sweet memories, too.

Ironically, my husband just mentioned last night that he was going to add peppermint extract to his family’s crinkle cookie recipe and it is sitting out here to make soon.

  12. My favorite recipe is for “Cinnapoppers”. They are Snickerdoodles made smaller to be bite sized. This is a beautiful platter! Would love to finally win!

  13. My favorite cookie is an old family recipe called Thimble Cookies. It’s a molasses thumbprint cookie that is rolled in pecans and filled with jam.

  14. I love baking cookies and instead of saying one favorite recipe, will say that my favorite type to make is “drop” cookies.

  15. I lovemy grandma’s peanut butter chocolate star cookies! At 92, she still bakes this one type of cookie as it is all of our grandkids’ favorite! I think it is because they are baked with a little bit extra love! 🙂

  20. I saw in the baking section at Walmart last week, a bag of already crushed candy canes! That is wonderful news to my arthritic bones!

    1. You can buy baking chocolate that used to come in small squares that were 1 oz each. Now they’ve changed the packaging a bit, so make sure it’s unsweetened chocolate and double check the ounces. I like Baker’s brand. Hope that helps.
