Low Cost Menu/Grocery List/Recipes

I pulled the recipes for this week’s menu from my list of Low Cost Meals.   Not only are the meals inexpensive, but they are quick to fix.

A few notes about the Low Cost Meals Menu:

  • Once again, the menu includes a slow cooker meal
  • You’ll double (or even triple) your effort one day by making dinner + extra for the freezer
  • I’ve included another dessert recipe, which is also inexpensive
  • Recipes include Serving Suggestions.  Those that are in bold are included in the grocery list in curly brackets {}.
  • Several meals are stretched by serving them with Depression Era Bread.  Even if you’ve never worked with yeast or made homemade bread, please give this a try.  It’s easy and the pay off is worth it.

Cost Analysis:

I took the list to Walmart and shopped the other day for all the ingredients and recommended side dishes.  I spent $70.  This was full Walmart prices with no coupons.  If you shop sales and coupons you will be able to do much better.  This includes food for 6 people, plus several meals of spaghetti sauce and meatballs in the freezer, a dessert, and extra loaves of Depression Era Bread to eat for breakfast.  There will be extra ingredients that you can use in other weeks (you won’t use an entire container of parmesan, all the lentils or a whole bottle of teriyaki sauce etc).

We love lentil tacos over here! And tomato soup with grilled cheese is a total comfort food from my childhood. Delish!

Thank you so much for your recipes and shopping lists! So far I have made the fried rice, and the spaghetti sauce in the slow cooker, both of which were delicious and easy to make! I’m a vegetarian but my husband and kids are not- your recipes are easy to modify and I love knowing exactly what to get at the store!

Tiffany! This was the best week yet. I normally do menu planning, but this week I just printed yours and went with it. I still have the tomato soup to make, but every other recipe we made. I wasn’t sure what the kids would think about the rice dish or the lentil tacos but they were both a HUGE hit!

Thank you for doing this… I will use it again!
