Oatmeal White Chocolate Chip and Cranberry Cookies

Last year, I saw recipes for cookies like this floating around the internet.  A friend brought some to my house and they were so good.  How can you go wrong with white chocolate chips and cranberries?

I decided to make them yesterday, but didn’t want to look up the recipe.  Googling is so hard, you know?

So I tweaked the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip recipe from the back of the Walmart brand oat box.  As soon as I finished making them, I noticed the recipe on the back of the Craisin package.  Oh well.  My tweaked recipe tasted buttery, with the sweet-tart flavors of the white chips and cranberries.  And the recipe made a lot.  Enough to munch and freeze some for later.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened (I used I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbs. milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 cups oats (quick cooking or regular, I used regular)
  • white baking chips, 11 oz bag
  • 1 cup dried cranberries

Mix the butter and sugars with an electric mixer.  Beat in the eggs, milk and vanilla.

Stir the baking soda and salt into the flour.  Add to the mixer bowl and beat until combined.  Add the oats to the bowl, mixing until combined.  Stir in the white chips and cranberries.

Drop by teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet or baking stone.  Bake at 375 degrees for 9 minutes.  Don’t over bake them.

  3. Someone gave me a gift jar with this mix in it a few years ago and the attached recipe was called Cranberry Hootycreeks. Strange name but awesome cookie! These are one of my favorites and I make them every year (making a second batch tomorrow!).

  4. I saw this at about 6 am, and immediately printed out the recipe. I’ve made two batches of these today! I had to make the second batch because we ate most of the first batch. :( Oops! These are awesome!

  5. I would LOVE these but my kids don’t get into cranberries! Go figure, the craisins are SO good! I’ll have to save this though, they look wonderful!

  6. Why, oh WHY did you post this evil little recipe?!!? I made yet ANOTHER batch today, cuz the TWO batches I made yesterday are gone! In all fairness to myself, I sent one batch to my neighbor for her to take to her family in Michigan this weekend, but that doesn’t explain where the second batch went, does it? What’s that? I have crumbs on my face? What are you talking about?!

  7. Are you at a low altitude? I’m between 5,000 and 6,000 above sea level and need to know if I need to adjust before baking. These sound yummy and I can’t wait to bake and give away- if they don’t get eaten here first. Sounds like a common problem!

  8. These are WONDERFUL! I’ve made them twice for company….and they make me look good! ha.

  9. Tiffany – I’m thinking of using this recipe for a cookie exchange. Can you tell me how many this batch makes? They sound wonderful! Thanks – if you don’t mind…please email me…I’m more likely to see your answer. =) mrsbaker11@frontier.com

  10. Oh, my! All of my favorite things in one cookie! Thank you!
