Weekend Links and a New Video for October’s Slow Cooker Freezer Meals

Andrea Green is doing a 31 day series on Whole Grain Bread.  She’s shared 1 master recipe and will share 30 different ways to use it.  So far she’s shown us how to make Whole Wheat Herbed Bread Sticks, Whole Wheat Cheesy Garlic Bread, and Frozen Pizza with Whole Wheat Crust.

I made another video for the Slow Cooker Freezer Meals for October.  This plan can be made in just about an hour, or even a bit less.  I made all of the meals and shot the video last Saturday morning.  I dropped Isaac off for soccer practice and rushed home.  I managed to do all the prep work and shoot the video in the hour I had before I picked him up again.  It was a rush, but I made it!

I’ll be swapping out the September plans and putting up the October plans today (Saturday).  We put up the new plans by the first Monday of the month.  Even though this past week has mostly been in October, it was the last week of September on our plans because last Monday was still September.  Bottom line is, the new plans are going up today.

I still hate seeing photos of myself, and watching the video isn’t too fun for me either.  But here it is for you.  I hope somebody finds it helpful.  And if you’re wondering if I got the second box of broth to fit in the soup bowl, I did.  Most of it anyway.

Thank you for doing this video series! It is really helpful. I have a question about the last freezer meal, the roast. I was wondering what cut of meat you use? If you have used different cuts have you found one that you think works best?

    • I think I used a chuck roast. I usually just buy what’s cheapest or what they have the right size of. You could also use round steak or another cut that’s similar.

  3. I know you dislike doing these videos, but I wanted to let you know they are so helpful. It really helped to make it concrete in my mind that this is something that I need to do and I will be making some crockpot/freezer meals tomorrow. I think it’s wonderful that in a hour, more or less, you can have 5 dinners or more ready to take out and put into the crockpot in the morning, with no more worrying about “what’s for dinner”!

  4. Thank you so much. My children are grown but we have potlucks at work so I will make them and people love it. I work for ARC and I share your site with all the other nurses. They think you are great!

Stupid question but do you have to defrost the freezer meal before putting it into the crockpot?

I LOVE your ideas and recipes! I’ve tried a couple without freezing (straight to slow cooker) AWESOME!!!!
I was was wondering if you thaw the meal before you put it in the cooker? If not, how does it fit?
I can’t wait to freeze a whole week’s meals! THANKS so much for what you do. LOVE the videos, by the way!!

  10. I’ve followed you for AGES… and when you did the first video I know you didn’t like seeing yourself, but when I saw it, a light suddenly went on for me, and I thought how could I have been so stupid not to have known how to do this.

Just genius.. Thank you so much for braving up and doing this, I never would have thought on this in a million years.

    Thanks so much
