peanut butter balls

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  But it won’t really taste like it to me until I make Peanut Butter Balls.  They’ve been my favorite Christmas candy ever since I can remember.  What’s your favorite Christmas candy or cookie?

We’ve been listening to Christmas music on Pandora, streaming it through our Roku.  I don’t usually listen to music in the house, because our house tends to have a lot of built in noise.  I don’t like adding to it.  But it’s been fun to listen to Christmas songs while fixing dinner or playing cards.

One song in particular prompted me to ask on Facebook for the worst Christmas song ever.  This conversation may be my most favorite so far on the Eat at Home Facebook page.  People are passionate about bad Christmas music!  Pop over and read through it  and add your least favorite holiday songs.

My family is planning a trip to Disney World together again in June.  We had a short time together at Thanksgiving to talk about it, and I know we’ll do more planning at Christmas.  After all, the accommodations for the trip is my parents’ Christmas gift to all of us.

Last year, I shared this video about how they make candy canes by hand in Disneyland.  I love this process, so I wanted to share it again.  Have you ever had one of these special candy canes?  I think they have such a limited amount of them that you have to have a special ticket reservation to buy one.

I’ve never made a homemade gingerbread house, but I liked these tips from a baker in Disney World.

Have a great weekend!

African Pulled Beef Sandwiches – 75 Days of Summer Slow Cooker Recipes

75 Days of Summer Slow Cooker Meals EatAtHomeCooks

This is a Disney inspired recipe, but I’ve never actually eaten the real thing.  I heard about African Pulled Beef Sandwiches that are found in Animal Kingdom and they just sounded so good.  But I’m a long way from Disney World, so I decided to create my own version.

Apparently, they don’t actually taste like the original.  Fathom that, since I’ve never had the original and I totally made this recipe up the way I thought it sounded good.  However, these sandwiches really are good!  The meat is tender and full of flavor.  And the cucumber-yogurt-mint sauce cools down the spice and adds a creamy complement to the meat.

As a bonus they always make me think of Disney World when we have them.  If you’re hankering for a trip to Disney, our sponsor, The Magic For Less Travel has great deals on packages for 2014.

I love Disney World, so if you’re planning a trip, I’d love to hear about it.  Leave me a comment so I can live vicariously.  And if you find yourself eating at the Flying Fish at The Boardwalk, order a Peanut Butter and Jelly Creme Brulee for dessert.  Oh my goodness!  That was my favorite dessert of my most recent trip.  And don’t forget to check out The Magic For Less to help with your planning.  I’m so thankful to them for sponsoring Eat at Home!

Guest Posts I wrote this week:

I somehow managed to skip posting on my own blog on Thursday and Friday.  For Thursday, I really thought I had scheduled a post, but I had left it in draft instead.  I didn’t discover that until Friday afternoon.  I knew I didn’t have a post go up on Friday.  The busy week just got the best of me.

However, I did have a couple of guest posts published on other blogs.  My friends, Connie and Dana graciously allowed me to guest post on their blogs this week.

Weekend Links and Sponsor Shout-Out

Last month, Jim and I got to spend a long weekend in Disney World.  Just the two of us.  (And about a gazillion other people, too of course.)

We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary a little early.  It was our first trip without kids and we had a great time.  The Magic Kingdom was decorated for Christmas.  We also got to go to Hollywood Studios to see the Osborne Festival of Lights.  If you ever have the chance to do that, you’ll want to grab the opportunity.  It is incredible!

I’ve got several fun links for you.  And yes, they are Disney related.  As always, whenever we go to Disney it makes me want to go back!

If you’ve got Disney fever or are planning a first trip to Disney World, Disneyland or even a cruise, you’ll want to check out The Magic for Less.  Their travel agents can help you with all the planning and with finding the best deals.  I’m very happy that The Magic for Less is a sponsor of this site.

A few weeks ago, I read about candy cane making at Disneyland on the Disney Food Blog.  Here’s a video of the process.  So cool!

While we were in Disney this time, we tried the caramel apples for the first time. They had put some out to sample in a Fantasyland shop while we were browsing. I’d always thought they were just for looks, but the are truly scrumptious! We ended up buying 3 to bring home with us. Here’s a video of how they make the apples.

And if you’d like to get a taste of the Osborne Festival of Lights, here’s a video for you.

I’ve got Christmas baking and shopping to do this weekend. How about you? I hope you’re getting in the Christmas spirit!
