Apple pie and the Fourth of July. It doesn’t get any better. Or does it?
I don’t know when apple pie and fourth of July became a sort of American Classic combo, but I do know that when the fourth rolls around, we’ve gotta have some apple pie kind of sweet!
So maybe it doesn’t have to be a real pie. Since we’re trying to ditch the oven and keep the house cool, I’m thinking we should look at our apple-y options for tomorrow. Either one of these apple caramel desserts would be a huge home run at any Independence Day celebration. Especially because both are best served with a lot of ice cream.
I’m not sure I want to take the time to roll out a real crust and make the real deal kind of apple pie tomorrow anyway.

I just discovered your fabulous Blog and emails. We have hot summers and I don’t use my kitchen much. We get tired of grilled food all summer, discovering your wonderful collection has made our meals much more interesting. I made two of your recipes last week – beef enchiladas and the apple crisp. Both are great and a hit with my family. I tweaked the crisp a bit to make it with what I had on hand and to our taste. What a success – I used one box of spice cake mix and one cup of quick oats. I cut the butter down to 3/4 of a stick and left out the additional sugar and spices. Can’t wait to try more recipes – Thank you so much for your efforts on our behalf.
