We pulled the Easy Bake Oven out last night to make some cookies. It was a Christmas gift for my daughter last year. I’m happy to say that it’s gotten a fair amount of use. We keep it in a room near the kitchen and I store the little pans and tools in the kitchen. I also bought a cookbook called Baking with Mommy Cookbook. It’s got easy recipes that taste good. I refuse to buy the expensive mixes.

Sometimes, we bake a small portion of whatever we’re having for dinner in the EBO. We’ve done Nachos, baked spaghetti, cheese tortillas, pizza… It’s a fun way to spend time together.

The Snowball Cookie recipe is adapted from Baking with Mommy Cookbook. Here’s what you’ll need:

3 Tbs. powdered sugar

2 Tbs. butter, softened (didn’t make it in the picture)

5 Tbs. flour

1/8 tsp. cream of tartar

1/8 tsp. baking soda

shake of cinnamon

1/8 tsp. vanilla

enough water to make dough

extra powdered sugar

Combine all the ingredients except the extra powdered sugar. Go easy adding the water. It doesn’t take much. Stir it all together with a spoon until it’s well combined.

Roll the dough into balls. Our dough was too soft to roll, so we just dropped them from a spoon. Roll each cookie dough ball in powdered sugar. Bake for 6-10 minutes. The book says 10, but we found 6 minutes was enough. I think this may depend on the size of your cookies.

When my youngest daughter asked for an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas, my first thought was of eating expensive light-bulb baked cakes. But I found out that you can use real food in the Easy Bake Oven and Santa was given the green light to bring one in his sack.

He also brought a copy of Baking with Mommy Cookbook, which has some great little recipes in it, including this one for Marshmallow Mud.

Gather up your ingredients:

2 Tbs. Rice Cereal (we used Honey Bunches)
5 small marshmallows
1 Tbs. chocolate chips
1/2 tsp. butter

Butter the pan

Put the cereal in the buttered pan

Put the chocolate chips in

Add the marshmallows and smoosh them down a bit. We learned the hard way that there is not much room inside the Easy Bake Oven.

Bake for 5 minutes. Stir and drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper. The kids were happy with the taste of these.

We also made a little chocolate fondue in the warming cup, by filling the cup with chocolate chips.

Yum!
