Free Disney Dining and My Favorite WDW Restaurants and Treats

My favorite Walt Disney World promotion is back!  Free dining!

I have to say, this is so very, very tempting to me.  We’ve been to WDW several times on the free dining promotion.  A couple of years ago, Jim and I went on a long weekend trip together to celebrate our 25th anniversary.  We had free dining on that trip.

I have a hard time justifying eating at very many of the table service restaurants when we go without free dining.  It can cause the cost of the trip to really add up.  But it’s so very fun to be able to book restaurants that we’d never eat in ordinarily.  And snack credits are included too.

Today, I’m going to share a few of my favorite WDW treats and restaurants.  But first, if you’re as tempted by the free dining promo as I am, check out the details from our site sponsor, The Magic for Less Travel.  They’ll give you a free, no-obligation quote so you can decide if it’s in your budget or not.

Hungry for a great vacation?  Fall FREE Dining has been announced for Walt Disney World!  FREE Dining is offered on non-discounted room and ticket packages at select Disney resorts and is available August 31-December 23, 2014 (Blackout dates apply).  Are you ready to plan that Magical vacation during FREE Dining?  Contact The Magic For Less Travel for your FREE no-obligation quote!  Don’t forget to ask about their Disney Gift Card offer with select Walt Disney World packages!

Magic Kingdom Treats and Restaurants

One of my favorite places in all the world is the Magic Kingdom Confectionary.  I love walking in here just to absorb the sweet scent.  But I do have a few favorite treats that can be found here.

Chocolate covered pineapple skewers are amazing.  I don’t have a photo for you and I know it sounds kind of strange, but oh my!  These are so good.  You can find them in several places in various parks.  And they count as a snack credit too, if I’m not mistaken.

Sometimes we pop in the Confectionary for cookies to take back and munch during afternoon rest time.  I can never resist getting one of these Mickey gingerbreads.  I love these at any time of year.

Our other Magic Kingdom must-eat treat is a Dole Whip Float.  I couldn’t find a photo of this in my albums.  I need to fix that!  Find this iconic treat at Aloha Isle in Adventureland right across from The Swiss Family Tree House.

Now for MK restaurants.  Our favorite counter service places are Pecos Bill (my kids can’t wait to order the burger topped with onion rings and bbq sauce!) and Columbia Harbor House.  At this place, choose a seat upstairs.  It’s much quieter than the downstairs seating and a nice spot to relax.

As for table service restaurants, there are lots of good choices in and near Magic Kingdom.  I was hoping to get to try Be Our Guest restaurant during our trip this summer, but I don’t think we’ll be able to make that happen.

We do love ‘Ohana at the Polynesian (here’s a copycat version of their bread pudding that you fix in the slow cooker).  We are splurging on this meal for our trip in June.  I can’t wait!

We also love Kona Cafe at Polynesian, especially for a quiet breakfast.  The food is very good, the coffee outstanding, the atmosphere relaxing and quiet at breakfast.

EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios

I’m cheating here.  I’m going to give a quick overview of these places instead of going into lots of detail.

I have no photos of EPCOT food.  I don’t know how that happened!  In a word, eat around the world.  Sample and share.

Must eats for us:

  • School Bread in Norway
  • Shwarma platters in Morocco
  • Anything in France
  • Pretzels and/or something caramel in Germany

This pineapple filled with fresh fruit used to be available at several places in Animal Kingdom.   I’ve just browsed over the menus and can’t see that it’s still an option.  If you find it, buy it.  It’s a great way to cool off and eat something healthy too.  And it’s great for sharing.

In Hollywood Studios, I can’t say we have any real must-eat items.  For table service restaurants, we’ve enjoyed Mama Melrose, 50s Prime Time Cafe and the Sci-Fi Dine-In.

Your turn!  Tell me what you love to eat in Disney World! I want to try some new things on our trip this summer!
