This is the last week to get the October Weekly Meal Plans. We’ll be switching the member page over to the November plans sometime over the weekend (Nov. 5-6). If you’ve been thinking about joining, this is a great time. It’s like getting two months for the price of one!
You can see the main dishes for the plans this week at the bottom of this post. But first, some real life stuff.
Last week, I made some good meals and one that was a flop. On Monday, I wanted to make French Onion Soup in the slow cooker. I started by cutting onions at 7:30 in the morning. They cooked all day in the slow cooker, caramelizing. That worked, but oh my goodness. Smelling onions cooking for that long was not good. And then the soup was only so-so. Definitely not blog worthy and not worth all those hours of onion smell either. I was waking up in the night still smelling them!
Tuesday was the last day of soccer practice for Isaac. This felt like an easy season since he was playing JV. Last year was Peter’s senior year and he played on varsity. That is a lot more travel and a lot more games.
Dinner Tuesday night was Fettucini and broccoli. It’s one of our favorite quick meals.
On Wednesday night, I made barbecue chicken on the stove top. I used a new cast iron grill pan from ALDI. More info on that coming soon, along with a fantastic recipe for you! Honestly, I can’t remember what we had with the chicken. It might have been wedge salads though. I know we ate those at some point this week.
On Thursday, I tested another new soup for the slow cooker – Southwestern Chicken Chowder. This time the recipe worked! I’ll be sharing it with you on Friday. Thursday turned cold and we even had snow flurries. It was a perfect night for soup and this:
And Friday night, we ordered pizza. Then Jim and I met friends to see Gravity. I was afraid that it would be really intense (like Castaway only in space). But it wasn’t. It’s a good movie with some thought provoking themes. And they did previews for several others that look good too. Have you seen the trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty? I think it looks really good. I do wonder what it will be rated, because it looks like it could be a great family film. I also thought the new movie with Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep looked good. It’s called August: Osage County. I’m not sure what it’s rated or when it comes out.
