I’m writing this post more than a week before it goes live, so I’m going to be guessing at what real life was like. We’ve been in Gulf Shores, AL all week, so I’m assuming we’ve relaxed, walked in the sand, floated on water, sipped coffee with a view of the ocean in the morning…
If you’re wondering, we do eat at “home”, even on our beach vacations. My mom plans all of our food. She’s wonderful! You can read about how she does it here. The menu doesn’t vary much, because this just works for us. We’ve used it in Disney World and on beach trips.
Our other big event for this week is picking our oldest daughter from the airport on Sunday night. She’s been in China all summer and we are so, so excited to bring her home! I know her fiance is anxious to have her home again. And once we get her home, let the wedding planning begin! We’ve got three months till the big day.
I know Meredith will have so many stories to tell us of her trip, but I thought you might enjoy hearing this one. She and her roommate were able to find a chocolate chip cookie mix and some butter to make cookies in the home of some Chinese friends. They loved the cookies, having never eaten one warm from the oven before. Some of the girls used chopsticks to eat the cookies.
Meredith experienced all kinds of things, including an emergency trip to the hospital for food poisoning. She also went to the eye doctor and got new glasses for just $15. She and her roommate were able to go to a Chinese church quite a few times too.
Now with vacation over and Meredith home, I’ll feel like summer is about over. Time to start thinking of getting back into a homeschool routine. Are you starting to think about back to school?
