Happy Labor Day

Our weekend forecast: Isaac. Stormy. Stormy.

I couldn’t be happier.

We don’t have any plans at all this weekend and I’m ready to be “rained in”.  Kind of like snowed in, only warmer.

I’m planning on making some of these:

I’m going to try out an apple toffee version.  Yum, yum!

I’m also going to make some meatballs for the freezer.  But I want to tweak the recipe to stretch the meat as far as possible.  I paid almost $10 for a 2.25lb. package of hamburger today.  Good gravy, that’s a lot of money.  Do you have a favorite method for stretching ground beef?

I won’t be spending all weekend cooking.  We’ve started a jigsaw puzzle on the coffee table.  Perfect for being rained in.

And I want to spend some time reading.  Currently, I’m enjoying Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.  I’d like to finish it this weekend.  If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you may have seen this photo of the inscription I found in the front of my used copy of the book.

Such a bittersweet note.

So I’m looking forward to some reading, puzzle working and cooking.  Exciting, right?  (Actually, I’m super excited about it!)

What about you?  Do you have big plans this weekend?  Whatever you’ll be doing, I hope you have a great one!

  1. I hope you enjoy the book!! I read it a few months ago for a bookclub and really liked it. It personalized the war years so well.

  2. I am guessing that the fact that she sold the book is not a great indication of their current relationship status. 🙁

With that said, I do love buying used books that have notes in them. Gives more meaning, right?

Sounds like an awesome book. I think I might look for it at the used book store. Are you loving it?

    • I know! I can’t believe she sold the book. Judging just by the note, he sounds like a keeper. I guess a note isn’t enough to judge character though. And yes, the book is really good.
