Menu, Grocery List, Recipes – Week 37

It’s hard to believe we’re over half way through April.  This has been the prettiest spring.  It’s been warm and sunny.  Our strawberries have plenty of flowers, so I hope that means we’ll have lots of berries in a few months.

A few notes about this week’s menu: The recipe for Tamale Sandwiches makes enough to freeze.  I was able to put 2 extra meals in the freezer when I made it.

Also, the Pizza Bowties with Italian Sausage makes a lot.  If you have a smaller family, you might want to only make half a recipe.

There are 6 dinners and 1 dessert included.  Serving suggestions are listed in bold on the recipes and in curly brackets {} on the grocery list.

  1. Hi, stopping by from MPM. I hope you don’t mind, but I am going to link up to your chicken and cheese rice casserole. It sounds so good and it is so simple! I am giving it a whirl this week.

  2. Hi, I use (almost) the same recipe as your Cottage Pie. I call it Shepards Pie and I put peas and carrots in with the meat. For special occasions I like to use a combo of ground veal and pork or lamb. Admittedly that does make the meal more costly, but so yummy!

  3. I whipped up the Cottage Pie last night as I had for some reason instant potatoes in the pantry to use. I think I’d do my own next time – I can’t get past the flavor of instant. I like the idea of adding veggies and would either add mushrooms for change of pace, or peas/carrots/green beans to make it more “Shepard Pie” like, but did think the flavor addition of the gravy was good. My biggest issue was a bit too much grease, but that may be because I didn’t rinse my meat well or else the gravy was just too heavy. Definitely worth playing around – this was a nice easy comfort food to make.
