Peanut Butter Sandwich on Depression Era Bread and a Peek at Next Week

I felt like a kid again when I had this for lunch the other day.  Something about the homemade white bread, the big glass of chocolate milk and the individual cup of applesauce.  It made me remember carrying my Holly Hobby lunch box to school.  The same lunch box I hit Denny Rice with.  Denny was a trouble maker.  He knocked the head off my snowman.  Our second grade teacher, Mrs. Shaum actually washed his mouth out with soap one day.  Can teachers still do that?

Crunchy peanut butter and raspberry jam spread on Depression Era Bread.  Simple and good.

A peek ahead at next week:

I’m working on another Menu/Grocery List/Recipes for you to download.  If all goes according to plan, that will be available Monday.  Be sure to check back for it and let your friends know too.

For those of you who don’t eat as much (or any) meat, I’ll try to have some recipes for you on the menu, or suggestions for you to alter the dishes.  I’ve also got a great vegetarian recipe lined up to share next week.  It made for a delicious dinner last night and the leftovers heated up great for lunch.  Be sure to visit next week to get the recipe.

You can be sure you don’t miss a recipe by subscribing to Eat at Home.  Enter your email address in the box in the right hand corner and have recipes sent directly to your inbox.  Or subscribe using RSS.

Sometimes the best lunches are the simple ones. I had a Holly Hobby lunch box too. I wonder whatever happened to that thing? Have a good weekend.

And I had a Holly Hobbie lunchbox, too! What a trip down Memory Lane…

Your simple tomato sandwich and the PB&J highlight how going meatless is a great way to cut costs. I intern with Meatless Monday, a non-profit with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health that encourages going meatless one day of the week to reduce the risk of preventable diseases, lower our environmental impact, and cut costs. The website provides a myriad of resources to make this commitment fun, cost-cutting, and of course delicious, with recipes (Check out this Roasted Mushroom and Mozzarella baguette: http://www.meatlessmonday.com/roasted-mushroom-and-mozzarella-baguette/) For more on the history and science behind the campaign watch the Yotube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpnKeYmR1NM
Thanks! Ashwini
