Homemade Doggie Treats

I have a young friend named Abby, who has started a business this summer making and selling homemade doggie treats.  I bought some from her and told her I would feature her recipe here on Eat at Home, but I don’t have a dog or any pets at all.  So, I let my daughter’s pet rock introduce the treats.  And I borrowed my neighbor’s cute little dogs to sample them.  Maybe you’ve got a dog you’d like to make treats for.  Or maybe you’ve got a child who would like to start a little business themselves.

I don’t have an ingredients picture for you this time, but it’s a very simple recipe.  Abby found it in a copy of American Girl Magazine.

2 cups whole wheat flour

2 cups water

1 tsp. vanilla

1 egg

1/3 cup peanut butter

Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl.  Pour into cupcake pans and bake for 10-15 minutes.  Cool them in the pan for a few minutes before removing.  Store in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Here are some pictures of Molly and Daisy enjoying their treats:

Look at that puppy smile!

Now I want to know if you have a dog.  Does your dog eat people food?  Do you ever cook for your dog?  Just so you know, I’ve never cooked for the pet rock but we did have a cat a long time ago who really liked Calico Bean Soup.  RIP,  Harley Davidson.  You were a good cat.

We have a dog…. an old dog that is, we fear, close to the end. Maybe I’ll whip these up for him to enjoy! My son would love too.

Mrs. King,
Thanks SO much for putting these fun doggie treats on your blog! I hope everyone who sees them enjoys making them, as much as they watch their pets eat them!

I’ve never cooked for my dog, unless he was sick. Otherwise, it’s dry stuff out of the bag for him. I think he might like these…if he didn’t, I’ll bet somebody at work would eat them…hehe :)

I’ve got to try these- what a fun idea. I’ve only been following your site for a while and I love it here- these are great ideas. Thank you!

This is great. My parents have turned into freaky dog people so now I can make them something for Christmas presents (their dogs that is … not my parents).

We do have a black Lab named Sophie. I have made her doggie treats from scratch. I like your recipe better!

That recipe is easy enough!

For some reason, the pet rock just cracked me up. Thanks for this idea – I struggle with those little gifts because I don’t want to give yet another knick knack but people are also overloaded with sweets. This idea is great for the people I know that love their dogs.

Do you bake at 350?

I believe they do bake at 350. I didn’t notice that I had left out the temp.
