The Beach, the Food, and a Picture of Me

me-at-beach

This is the first time I’ve shared a picture of myself and I have to say it’s much easier to share pictures of food.  I don’t really like pictures of myself, but in an effort to get over that (this is what I look like afterall) I decided to let you all know what I look like.

Last week my family spent our vacation with my sister’s family and my parents in a rented house at Gulf Shores, Alabama.  The beach was beautiful and we had a fantastic time.  My mom had prepared lots of food for the week and frozen it, packed on dry ice.  (See my post on vacation food for how to do this)

Here’s a picture of the cooler.  The dry ice was packed on top of the food, along with newspaper as an insulator.

Our menu was similar to what we did last year.  Stuffed Shells, Chicken Fiesta with Black Beans, hamburgers and hotdogs, Chicken Tetrazini, Chicken Pot Pie.  My sister and her husband raise bison and they brought along some bison fillets that they grilled for us.  I made mine into a salad.

We did plan one night for eating out at Lambert’s Cafe.  Lambert’s is a very popular restaurant.  We waited nearly an hour for our table, but it was worth it.

They had the cutest bucket of condiments on the table.  I had to drag them out and take a picture.

My brother-in-law ordered frog legs.  He got 5 pairs, attached at the…ummm…hip.  I hear frog legs jump in the pan while they’re cooking.

My oldest daughter was put off by all the meat and food.  She eats like a bird and decided to order a salad.  That must be a joke at Lambert’s, because the salad was big enough to feed a family of five for a week.

We even had a visit from the tooth fairy while we were at the beach.

Definitely a good vacation all around.  Thanks for letting me share a bit of it with you.

Looks like a great vacation! Nice pic of you too. I LOVE Lamberts….there was one in SE Missouri we went to when I lived in Arkansas. After you eat one of those rolls it’s almost over, but there’s so much other good stuff to come!

  6. The photos are wonderful and I love knowing what you look like – you are very young, very cute. I’m kind of with your daughter on the food at Lambert’s – there’s just sooooo much of it that it feels wrong somehow. Good, but wrong. I can’t help liking it though. Looks like a wonderful trip.

What a great idea, rent a home on the beach for vacation! And I looooove the idea of taking along pre-prepared food. I came to your site to find something for dinner. I love to cook, but sometimes, I run out of ideas, or my family decides, “I don’t want that.” We will be having frog legs soon! Thanks a lot for your help.

    Great pictures.

  11. Bill Coleman says:

Been to Lambert’s many times. Last time I was there, don’t remember frog legs. I’ll have to visit again soon.

  12. dongdong says:

It is so great to put your name with a picture. You look wonderful! Thank you for sharing all the wonderful recipes. That’s probably what I need to do at home, make a lot and then freeze the food. Making 3 meals a day at different times of the day is not my idea of great fun, unless I’m trying new recipes. ;)

  13. Cathy says:

I could identify Alabama white Gulf sand anywhere! Glad you had a great time. How smart to take prepared food. We always think about it but never do that — you’ve inspired me to do better this year. Thank you!
