This is the first time I’ve shared a picture of myself and I have to say it’s much easier to share pictures of food. I don’t really like pictures of myself, but in an effort to get over that (this is what I look like afterall) I decided to let you all know what I look like.
Last week my family spent our vacation with my sister’s family and my parents in a rented house at Gulf Shores, Alabama. The beach was beautiful and we had a fantastic time. My mom had prepared lots of food for the week and frozen it, packed on dry ice. (See my post on vacation food for how to do this)
Here’s a picture of the cooler. The dry ice was packed on top of the food, along with newspaper as an insulator.

Our menu was similar to what we did last year. Stuffed Shells, Chicken Fiesta with Black Beans, hamburgers and hotdogs, Chicken Tetrazini, Chicken Pot Pie. My sister and her husband raise bison and they brought along some bison fillets that they grilled for us. I made mine into a salad.

We did plan one night for eating out at Lambert’s Cafe. Lambert’s is a very popular restaurant. We waited nearly an hour for our table, but it was worth it.

They had the cutest bucket of condiments on the table. I had to drag them out and take a picture.
My brother-in-law ordered frog legs. He got 5 pairs, attached at the…ummm…hip. I hear frog legs jump in the pan while they’re cooking.

My oldest daughter was put off by all the meat and food. She eats like a bird and decided to order a salad. That must be a joke at Lambert’s, because the salad was big enough to feed a family of five for a week.

We even had a visit from the tooth fairy while we were at the beach.

Definitely a good vacation all around. Thanks for letting me share a bit of it with you.

What a yum blog! I’m already planning my menu for the beach! The sports teams in our community do fundraisers selling Boston Butts. I always buy one and put one in the freezer. My freezer butt is about ready to go. We can eat lunch off it for a couple of days. With my yummy cole slaw and fresh peaches, we’re in hog heaven–LOL-I loved the recipes on your blog! Congrats on your SITS day!
boy you know how to make a girl hungry!

Funny, we were at GS the week before you and at Lamberts as well, also Original Oyster House in Mobile, and sure do miss Coconut Willies. So glad you had such a good time and I am sure to use the tips for taking our meals in the future. I always take food but never organized as well as should be. Enjoying your site. Thanks for sharing.
